Indian hinterland emerges as saviour of hardware market

Estel introduces inter-carrier billing system
Estel Group, the Rs 20 crore company providing high technology back office solutions and services to telecom carriers, has chalked out an aggressive strategy for the next one year with greater emphasis on its billing solutions and services (mainly inter carrier billing & settlements).

C-DAC and Horizon form alliance
The Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC), a research & development facility, and Horizon Companies have formed a joint venture for developing telecom software products for the Indian market. Horizon will also promote C-DAC’s offshore development capabilities for the US market and facilitate the marketing and distribution of C-DAC-developed software products.

Intel rolls out Itanium 2 processors
Intel has announced that it has begun initial commercial shipments of 64-bit Itanium 2 processors and that systems and software based on the new processors are expected to be available beginning this quarter.

Customisation will fuel IT growth for companies
The honeymoon with high growth percentages seems to be over. The Year 2001-02 started on a gloomy note with a GDP growth recorded at four percent (2000-01), which was far below expectations.

Wipro to begin work on Kolkata centre
Wipro will start construction of its software development centre in Kolkata in September this year and the project would be completed within the next 15 months.
