D-Link has recently introduced VOIP solutions based on IP telephones and IP telephony station gateways for the enterprise segment. These solutions will substantially reduce long-distance voice and fax communication costs by enabling seamless transport of real-time toll quality voice traffic across IP networks.

The IP Telephones DPH-100M and DPH-100H enables one to make phone calls using the Internet or any IP network. Voice is converted into IP packets for transmission, so phone calls bypass the PSTN normally used for voice communication. Its biggest benefit is the elimination of the high cost of normal long distance and international phone calls. Designed as a full feature phone set that operates like any other ordinary telephone, these IP telephones can be easily installed at home or office.

It has a built-in fast Ethernet interface to connect to a DSL or a cable modem, or a router supporting DSL or cable modem connection. The IP Telephone is connected, once the Ethernet connector is plugged to the modem or router and is ready to make and receive calls anytime. An extra RJ-45 is provided to connect to PCs Ethernet interface or to home/office network (via a fast Ethernet switch or hub).

The IP Telephony station gateways DG-102S, DG-102SH, DG-104SH and DG-104S provides 2/4 Foreign Exchange Station (FXS) ports for direct connection to 2/4 telephones and fax machines. This allows the user to make long-distance phone calls and send long-distance faxes but pay only the local Internet and phone charge. Voice over the Internet (VOIP) can be over a high-speed broadband ADSL or a cable modem line.

A dual speed 10 Base-T/100Base-TX port is provided to connect to an ADSL or cable modem. These gateways in fact combine two functions in one compact box:

1) IP Telephony
2) Internet gateway.

Barracuda ATA V Disk Drive

Seagate has recently launched the Barracuda ATA V disk drive that achieves 120 GB using only two disks. It also offers a native serial ATA interface—a faster, simpler, more intelligent technology designed to replace today’s parallel ATA hard drive interface.

The Barracuda ATA V is ideal for high-performance desktops, home entertainment PCs, Network Attached Storage (NAS) and entry-level ATA servers. In fact, virtually any PC application will benefit from the increased performance offered by 7,200-rpm disk drives. Mainstream applications see performance boosts of as much as 44 percent, PCs boot faster and load applications faster and users perform everyday tasks faster. The Ultra ATA/100 version features a 2 MB cache, and the serial ATA version will sport an 8 MB cache, the largest on any PC hard drive.

Nexus 600 MC UPS

Guard Electronic Systems, manufacturer of the Nexus range of UPS devices has introduced India’s first multi coloured 600 VA UPS with advanced technology and host of other user-friendly features.

The new NEXUS 600 MC UPS has features ranging from wide input range of 145-270 volts to built-in spike, surge suppresser and automatic voltage regulator, reliable mosfet inverter, short circuit proof and built-in maintenance-free battery.

A high-speed sensing circuit phase loop locked to mains ensures instantaneous in-phase transfer from AC mains to inverter and vice versa. It also has a special safety circuit that protects both UPS and computer from any sort of damage in the unlikely event of a short circuit.

Another unique feature is ‘cold start’ that allows the UPS to switch on even when the mains are not available. Colour Monitors

Malaysia-based LIKOM in collaboration with Delhi-based Mangal Electronics has launched an international range of colour monitors with wide viewability which ensures 16.3 inches view ability (as compared to 16 inches in other similar colour monitors available in the market) in a 17-inch colour monitor.

Four different models of Likom colour monitors are available in two different sizes of 17 inches and 15 inches. The 17-inch Dynaflat series Model with 16.3 inch viewability is prized at Rs 7,900 while the 17-inch Futura Series with 16.1 inches viewability is available for Rs 6,900.

The other two models in 15-inch category have been competitively priced at Rs 4,950 and are 14 inch viewable. The 15-inch LCD monitors are prized at Rs 23,000 onwards.

Mumbai-based Best IT World recently launched its iSound series of speakers for the burgeoning notebook market. The company claims the iSound series of Notebook speakers will far surpass the currently available range of speakers both in terms of quality as well as aesthetics.

The new Flat Notebook speakers from Best IT World claims to be the ideal solution for laptops that do not come with speakers or in-built microphones. Also, though most laptops today come with in-built stereo speakers, users are not satisfied with its output quality.

Sony Ericsson T600 is a GSM triple-band mini mobile phone, one of the smallest and lightest phones available in the market. The T600 has text messaging with pictures and sounds (EMS), an easy-to-use calendar, access to online services (WAP), and an extensive phone book. T600 provides 1.5-5 hours of talk time and 80-180 hours of stand-by time. It comes in two colours, Moonlight Silver and Marine Blue.
