Tyco to launch new cable management tracking system

Circuit EC / Bangalore

K K Shetty

Tyco Electronics, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the US-based Tyco International, will launch a new intelligent cable management tracking system, AMPTRAC and iTRACS management software in India by January 2004. Currently, the company is running a few pilot projects for the new system in India at Orange, WNS, and Wipro Technologies.

K K Shetty, country manager, AMP NETCONNECT (structured cabling division), Tyco Electronics said “Our AMP NETCONNECT division is aiming at a 50 percent growth in revenues in 2003-04 from Rs 80 crore in 2003. We are hopeful that the mushrooming of call centres will drive the market for our products in the structured cabling market in India.”

At present Tyco Electronics’ AMP NETCONNECT division in India has roughly 110 employees, out of whom 10 are in sales and marketing operations. Besides this it has 80 direct installation partners such as Ingram Micro, Tech Pacific and CMC, amongst others. Additionally, the division’s training centre located in Bangalore provides training on AMPNET certification, enabling people to set up their own enterprises or start as a system integrator. The AMP NETCONNECT division has thus far trained 700 certified engineers. Tyco plans to extend the training facility to Mumbai and Delhi in the near future.

Shetty claims that Tyco has a 40 percent market share in the structured cabling segment in India. It spends around 12 percent of its sales revenues on R&D and has manufacturing facilities in Pune, Bangalore and Cochin.
